부주의하거나 신경을 쓰지 않아서 중요한 일을 제대로 하지 못하는 것을 의미한다.

주로 일, 모임, 스포츠 등에서 비격식적으로 쓰이며 실제로 공을 떨어뜨린다는 뜻이 아니다.
