일시적으로 혼란스럽고 현실 인식이 낮아지는 상태로, 흥분이나 환각이 동반될 수 있으며 보통 질병이나 열, 약물 때문입니다.

의학에서 주로 사용하며, 특히 노인 환자의 갑작스러운 혼란을 설명할 때 씁니다. 'delusion(망상)'과는 다릅니다.
