Normalmente informal. Se usa para reducir hábitos o consumo ('cut down on azúcar') y también para talar árboles ('cut down a tree'). No confundir con 'cut back' (reducir gastos) ni 'cut off' (interrumpir suministro). Se suele usar con 'on' para indicar qué se reduce: 'cut down on smoking'.
