特にキリスト教の洗礼式や、船・建物などを初めて正式に命名する時に、名前を付けること。

通常『was christened』の形で使う。宗教的な文脈では幼児洗礼に、比喩的に船や建築物などの初命名にも使う。大人にはあまり使われない、やや格式ある表現。

The baby was christened at the church on Sunday.

赤ちゃんは日曜日に教会で**洗礼名をつけられました**。

The ship was christened 'Ocean Queen' during the ceremony.
