鶉鴇是一種大型、體重重的鳥類，棲息在開闊草原和乾燥平原，分佈於歐洲、非洲、亞洲和澳大利亞部份地區，以長腿著稱，飛行能力強但很少飛。

「鶉鴇」或「大鴇」為正式或學術用語，在日常對話中較少出現。不要和「禿鷲」混淆。
