किसी चीज़ की झूठी छवि देना या दिखाना कि कुछ सच या सही नहीं है।

यह औपचारिक शब्द है, प्रायः लेखन में आता है। अक्सर 'appearance', 'smile', 'expression', 'reputation' के साथ इस्तेमाल होता है। मतलब असली और दिखावे में अंतर है। 'deny' से न मिलाएँ, जिसका अर्थ अलग है।
