To sign a document, usually a loan or contract, together with another person in order to promise payment or responsibility if the other person fails.

Most common in financial or legal settings. 'Cosign a loan' means you legally promise to pay if the borrower cannot. As a verb, usually followed by 'for' or 'on' ('cosign for a loan'). Not the same as just witnessing a signature—cosigning creates a financial obligation.
